Lina Bo Bardi Architetto

For the occasion of the 9th International Architecture Exhibition of the Venice Biennale, Venice’s IUAV University and city government are presenting from 10 September to 15 November, at the Ca’ Pesaro Gallery of International Art, a show dedicated to the work of architect Lina Bo Bardi: Lina Bo Bardi Architetto il recupero dell' autenticità, conceived and organized by Luciano Semerani, Antonella Gallo and Giovanni Marras and produced with the collaboration of the Lina Bo and P.M. Bardi Institute.

The exhibition features more than 200 original drawings that emphasize “freedom of architecture” as a basis of Lina Bo Bardi’s work, while visually representing her artistic and architectural thought..

Besides drawings and architectural models, the show will also feature her furniture designs, scenographic pieces and a large part of her collection of popular art, as well as reconstructions of her setups for exhibitions and the construction of the project Grande Vaca Mecânica [Large Mechanical Cow] proposed in the 1980s for the Museum of Art of São Paulo but never constructed.

The set shown evinces the process underlying architect Lina Bo Bardi’s projects, while allowing the viewer to grasp her intellectual universe and her search, both within and outside of architecture, for the possibility of a genuine expression of national culture.
