Thesis presented in 1957 to the official examination to teach Theory of Architecture at the College of Architecture and Urbanism of the University of São Paulo. This research witnesses the interdisciplinary roots of Lina's work that always emphasized how "the interest of architecture and its theory concern problems of history and critics and, most of all, interpretation to serve day-by-day life”. This important contribution goes though time: from Plato, passing by Vitruvio and Leonardo da Vinci, up to the modern architecture of Walter Gropius, Frank Lloyd Wright, Lúcio Costa and of other great masters, to confirm the essentially public and social character of architecture, art from men to men.
